These are some of the censorship cases reported through our ‘Report an Incident’ tool documenting digital censorship. They highlight takedowns, suspensions, and shadowbanning on platforms like Instagram, WhatsApp, and others.
This is not an exhaustive list, but a selection of recent incidents that illustrate how abortion and reproductive rights information, civil rights issues, and more are being suppressed around the world.
TikTok Takedown: @AidAccess @ma_hotline_es (simultaneous)
In August 5 2025, TikTok suspended @AidAccess and @ma_hotline_es, in less than five minutes apart.
Instagram Takedown: @carafem
Instagram and Threads have suspended @carafem—a licensed abortion provider offering FDA-approved abortion pills by mail in 20 U.S. states.
Instagram Shadowban: @all_things_democracy
Instagram is actively suppressing all_things_democracy—an account with 330k+ followers that shares fact-based political and social content, once reaching over 25 million people monthly.
Instagram Takedown: @awareness.advocacy.change
Instagram suspended @awareness.advocacy.change, an account with over 230,000 followers and a reach of 300k–600k people per month, after it shared a clip of Diego Luna discussing immigrant rights on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
MSI Mexico, WhatsApp, Mexico
Meta suspended MSI Mexico’s WhatsApp account, their main channel for booking abortion care. It has not been reinstated.
Cami Te Ayuda, Instagram, Chile
Cami Te Ayuda’s Instagram account was permanently removed for sharing accurate, legal abortion info in Chile. No appeal was offered.
Plan C and Shout Your Abortion, Instagram, USA
Instagram removed more than 10 posts from both Plan C and Shout Your Abortion in 24 hours, targeting accurate, legal abortion pill information. No appeal was offered.
Con Las Amigas y En La Casa, Instagram, Chile
Instagram suspended @conlasamigasyenlacasa in Chile. After pressure, the account was restored—but one admin’s personal account was permanently removed with no appeal.
