Recent Censorship Cases
These are some of the cases reported through our ‘Report an Incident’ tool documenting digital censorship of reproductive health content. They highlight takedowns, suspensions, and shadowbanning on platforms like Instagram, WhatsApp, and others.
This is not an exhaustive list, but a selection of recent incidents that illustrate how abortion and reproductive rights information is being suppressed around the world.
If you or your organization have experienced censorship, report it here.
TikTok Takedown: @AidAccess + @ma_hotline_es (simultaneous)
In August 5 2025, TikTok suspended @AidAccess and @ma_hotline_es simultaneously—in less than five minutes. Both accounts provided life-saving, confidential information on abortion pills and reproductive care, with more than 10,000 followers each. Their takedown is another example of abortion content being disproportionately targeted and silenced despite no violations.
Instagram Takedown: @carafem
Instagram and Threads have suspended @carafem—a licensed abortion provider offering FDA-approved abortion pills by mail in 20 U.S. states. The suspension followed a post in collaboration with @kaydenxofficial, a trans man receiving abortion care, highlighting inclusive, gender-affirming healthcare. While the video was not removed, the account remains suspended—another example of abortion and LGBTQ+ content being disproportionately targeted and silenced despite no violations.
Instagram Shadowban: all_things_democracy
Instagram is actively suppressing all_things_democracy—an account with 330k+ followers that shares fact-based political and social content, once reaching over 25 million people monthly. Since June 16, 2025, over 50 cleared videos were falsely flagged as “duplicate content,” yet the account remains shadowbanned—hidden from Explore, Search, and Reels despite no violations.
Instagram Takedown: @awareness.advocacy.change
Instagram suspended @awareness.advocacy.change, an account with over 230,000 followers and a reach of 300k–600k people per month, after it shared a clip of Diego Luna discussing immigrant rights on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Plan C and Shout Your Abortion, Instagram, USA
Instagram removed more than 10 posts from both Plan C and Shout Your Abortion in 24 hours, targeting accurate, legal abortion pill information. No appeal was offered.
