In August 2025, Instagram and Threads suspended @carafem—a licensed abortion provider offering FDA-approved abortion pills by mail in 20 U.S. states.
The suspension came shortly after carafem posted a video in collaboration with @kaydenxofficial, a trans man receiving abortion care, highlighting the importance of inclusive, gender-affirming healthcare. While the video itself was not removed, it may have contributed to the account being flagged—as abortion and LGBTQ+ content are disproportionately targeted by platform moderation systems.
⚠️ There have been no violations. Carafem is a licensed healthcare provider sharing accurate, policy-compliant information. Yet automated flagging and opaque moderation are blocking access to essential reproductive and gender-affirming healthcare at scale—putting lives at risk.
This is part of a broader pattern: Big Tech platforms increasingly silence abortion providers and LGBTQ+ inclusive voices—where essential healthcare information is routinely flagged and removed under false pretenses.
💡 Abortion is healthcare. Gender-affirming care is healthcare. Censorship causes harm.
