Instagram Suspends Ukrainian Abortion Information Account @Pro_Abort

📅 Date: February 2026
📍 Region: Ukraine
📱 Platform: Instagram
🔗 Account: @Pro_Abort

@Pro_Abort is an educational account run by women’s rights activists in Ukraine. It provides evidence based information on mifepristone, misoprostol, and safe abortion methods, and is affiliated with the international nonprofit Women Help Women.

In December alone, the account reached more than 92,600 people seeking accurate reproductive health information.

On 9 February, the account was blocked by Instagram. An appeal was immediately submitted and the account was briefly reinstated for one day. On 10 February, it was blocked again without any option to appeal and remains permanently suspended to this day.

These resources provide critical guidance on safe abortion methods and confidential pathways to care, particularly in a context of ongoing war, displacement, occupation, and attacks on healthcare infrastructure that have severely disrupted access to reproductive health services across Ukraine.

Reports of conflict related sexual violence and forced displacement further increase the need for timely, confidential abortion care and information. In such contexts, online SRHR information functions as essential healthcare infrastructure.

The removal of this account directly disrupts access to reliable health information and safe abortion guidance, increasing vulnerability to misinformation, delayed care, and unsafe outcomes.

This case reflects a broader pattern in which abortion information and SRHR advocacy face disproportionate scrutiny, opaque enforcement, and almost no effective avenues for appeal on major platforms.

Such enforcement does not only reduce visibility. It cuts off thousands of people from essential, time sensitive healthcare and from trusted, confidential pathways to care, especially in contexts of war and conflict.
