Instagram Takedown: @TheQueerAgenda.ams

📅 Date: November 2025
📍 Region: Netherlands
📱 Platform: Instagram
🔗 Account: @thequeeragenda.ams

In November 2025, Instagram suddenly removed @thequeeragenda.ams along with almost its entire network of linked accounts, without any warning. The Queer Agenda is a community based platform in Amsterdam that creates space for queer culture through events, photo projects, nightlife performances and collaborations with art institutes, museums, dating apps and clubs.

Their page is a vital artery for queer life in the city, documenting culture and keeping people connected. The account has more than ten thousand followers and reaches hundreds of thousands of people each month.

After the takedown, they appealed, but Instagram responded that the account would remain permanently banned. Community members began circulating instructions to help reinstate it, writing:

“@thequeeragenda.ams was removed by mistake. This is a queer cultural project and should be reinstated.”

⚠️ There were no violations. The account shared culture, community projects and event information. Yet vague rules and opaque moderation silenced a platform that has long been one of the few visible and safe digital spaces for queer communities in Amsterdam.

This is part of a broader global pattern where Big Tech platforms suppress queer cultural work, reproductive health content and social justice messaging without transparency. When these spaces disappear, entire networks lose access to safety, community and vital information.

Digital spaces are essential. Censoring them causes harm.
