On January 30, Instagram suspended the account of Con Las Amigas y En La Casa, a Chilean organization providing reproductive health information. The account remained offline for over a week.
After sustained community pressure, Instagram reinstated the organizational account on February 10—but not without consequence. One of the organization’s admin’s personal accounts was permanently removed, with no explanation or option to appeal.
This is not an isolated case. Meta’s content moderation practices are repeatedly silencing abortion access information across Latin America and beyond—even when posts follow local law and aim to provide lifesaving, harm-reduction support.
Reproductive health educators and organizers continue to be penalized by U.S.-centric platform policies that ignore regional realities and global health standards.
